Real Stories of Transformation, Healing, and New Beginnings
At Illumine Therapy, I work with high-achieving, highly caring adults across Utah—people who have built successful lives but still feel weighed down by anxiety, burnout, or unresolved past experiences. Many grew up with high expectations or learned to take care of everyone else at the expense of themselves.
Through evidence-based, brain-body approaches like EMDR, Brainspotting, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), my clients learn how to break free from old patterns, heal the root causes of their struggles, and reconnect with what matters most.
Here are a few of their journeys—shared with permission and with all identifying details changed for privacy.

Anxiety & Overwhelm: Finding Calm and Confidence

Lauren’s Story
Lauren was a high-achiever who could juggle endless meetings, deadlines, and responsibilities—but her mind never stopped racing. She lay awake most nights replaying conversations, questioning her decisions, and mentally preparing for every possible “what if.”
In our sessions, Lauren learned practical tools to quiet her thoughts with ACT and stop carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders. We worked on letting go of perfectionism through processing old wounds with EMDR, building realistic expectations, and creating space for rest.
Lauren says she now moves through her day with a calm she never thought was possible.
- “I used to wake up anxious every day. Now, I can actually breathe again.”
Trauma Recovery: Reclaiming Safety and Self-Trust

Evan’s Story
Evan came to Illumine Therapy carrying the heavy weight of childhood trauma.
For years, Evan felt tense and guarded. Certain situations instantly brought back feelings from the past, making it hard to relax or trust anyone.
Together, we created a safe space where Evan could face these memories without being overwhelmed. Step by step, he learned how to stay present, feel grounded, and separate his present-day life from what had happened before.
In our Trauma Intensive program, we used Brainspotting and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to help Evan process trauma at both a cognitive and body-based level. Over five half-day sessions, he learned to ground himself in the present and release the belief that he was broken.
- Today, Evan says he feels “safe in my own skin” and is reconnecting with relationships he had once avoided out of fear.
Burnout & Midlife Reset: Rediscovering Joy

Rachel’s Story
Rachel had built a successful career, raised a family, and checked every “life achievement” box—yet she was exhausted, emotionally flat, and wondering if this was all life had to offer.
Through Illumine Therapy’s personalized plan, we worked on identifying values, setting boundaries, and creating space for rest and creativity. She learned how to say “no” even if she felt guilty, pace herself at work, and infuse her daily life with activities that genuinely recharged her.
Rachel now says she feels “alive again,” with the energy to take on new hobbies, travel, and be present with loved ones.
- “I thought I’d have to keep going until I broke. I didn’t realize I had options.”
Identity & Life Transitions: Gaining Clarity in Uncertain Times

Maya’s Story
When Maya hit her late 40s, she realized the life she had built no longer felt like hers. Between career changes, evolving family dynamics, and questions about her identity, she felt unmoored and unsure where to turn.
We used a blend of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and values-based coaching to help Maya reconnect with what mattered most to her. Over several months, she gained clarity about her next chapter, developed decision-making skills, and started building the life she actually wanted—not just the one she had drifted into.
Maya says she now feels “anchored, even when things change,” and is embracing her next phase with excitement instead of fear.
- “I stopped feeling like a passenger in my own life.”
