Rest Series (5/8): Spiritual rest

Spiritual rest nature 84401

Spiritual rest will come down to your own needs, current meaning and purpose, and belief system. At the core of being human, we want to belong. Belonging can look like many different things and show up in many different areas. If your spiritual need is in a deficit it could look like not feeling like you belong to the greater good. It might feel like not having purpose or meaning.

Depending on your belief system, what you do for work, and if you volunteer or give back in your neighborhood or community, will depend on how much this area needs attention.

For example, some individuals who feel like they show up to work only for a paycheck might feel like they don’t have a purpose. A work culture can shift, even if it feels like it can’t, by focusing on the things you are doing that benefit the community, how it gives back, or how your job is meaningful to the greater good. Or you might need to find spiritual rest outside of work culture. You can also find spiritual meaning through community or a faith-based culture.

To refill your spiritual cup here are a few suggestions:

-       Doing a morning or evening meditation.

-       Volunteering your time to serve others.

-       Connecting to an organization or even your neighbor in a way that feels important.

-       Listening to a podcast or someone you look up to that emulates purpose, gives you a sense of meaning, and provides aha moments.

- Connecting more with your faith group.

-       Listening to something spiritual. For example: spiritual talks, music that moves you, or prayers and mantras.

-       Spending time in an environment that you find to be spiritual. For me that is the mountains. For you that might be a park and putting your feet in the grass.

-       Associating with like-minded people where you can talk about spirituality or have philosophical conversations about things such as purpose, meaning, belonging, and what that means to you in your life.

-       Gratitude lists and acknowledgments.

- Yoga.

Test a few of these suggestions if you are in a spiritual deficit and let me know which ones worked or didn’t. Also, let me know if thought of more spiritual things to help fill your cup.
